Visit the gift shop and bistro and climb to the top of the viewing tower for a panoramic view of Winnipeg. fort gibraltar (www.fortgibraltar. com) is party central during Festival du Voyageur, and the rebuilt fur- trading post in st. Boniface is a great place to visit in summer, too. Costumed interpreters recreate daily life as if it's 1815 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Costumed interpreters also bring lower fort garry national historic site (www.pc.gc.ca) to life in July and august, and admission is free on Canada Day. sign up for a tea party or put the kids to work on Children's Days to give them a taste of life during the fur-trade era. the oldest wooden building in Winnipeg is le musée de saint- Boniface museum (www.msbm. mb.ca), built by the Grey nuns in 1844. Peruse artifacts, vignettes and a special exhibit devoted to the life of louis riel. the manitoba museum is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., including Canada Day, until sept. 7. Family-friendly excursions on weekends through september include themed trips such as the Great train robbery, the Mystical Magic train and a Planes, trains and automobiles event. set sail for selkirk and the marine museum of manitoba (www.marinemuseum.ca) to check out six historic ships dating from 1897 to 1963, and explore Manitoba's marine history. take a drive south to st.
