11 Glide & Slide Every day's a snow day in Winterpeg. Rent skates at The Forks (pages 13, 14, 21, 24, 26, 28, 29, 32-35 & 37)and glide along the Assiniboine River — a Guinness record holder as the world's longest naturally frozen rink — and take a break in one of five ingenious warming huts, including one designed by internationally famed architect Frank Gehry. The Forks also has two man- made rinks, a toboggan run and snowboard fun park, with aprés skate dining and shopping options at The Forks Market and Johnston Terminal. Over at Assiniboine Park, (pages 12, 13 & 32) take a spin on the newly expanded duck pond skating rink, or cross-country ski on more than five kilometres of trails.
