Glide & Slide
Every day's a snow day in Winterpeg. Rent skates at The Forks (pages 13, 14, 21, 24, 26, 28, 29, 32-35 & 37)and glide along the Assiniboine River — a Guinness record holder as the world's longest naturally frozen rink — and take a break in one of five ingenious warming huts, including one designed by internationally famed architect Frank Gehry. The Forks also has two man- made rinks, a toboggan run and snowboard fun park, with aprés skate dining and shopping options at The Forks Market and Johnston Terminal. Over at Assiniboine Park, (pages 12, 13 & 32) take a spin on the newly expanded duck pond skating rink, or cross-country ski on more than five kilometres of trails.

The Great Indoors
Baby, it's cool inside. Recently, teen heartthrob Justin Bieber romanced singer Selena Gomez on the deck of fur-trade era replica ship The Nonsuch at The Manitoba Museum (pages 19, 22, 33, 35, 37 & 39). Always a star attraction, this Museum has a treasure trove of historical artifacts and modern delights. Step right up to catch feature exhibit Circus: Science Under the Big Top. Hop over to the Children's Museum (pages 14, 33-36 & 38) at The Forks, where small fries can play with food at Lasagna Lookout. Then cruise the Winnipeg Art Gallery (pages 24, 33 & 35-40). Along with collections of Renaissance, Inuit and modern art, the WAG opens special exhibit American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell – Mar. 1.
