Last year, neighbourly ice fishers set up a community of 68 ice fishing shacks at Sandy Bar, near Riverton. In winter, visitors will find crafts, stained glass, pottery, oil paintings, jewelry, quilts and mirror art in a handful of year- round galleries. Check out the Mermaid's Kiss Gallery in Gimli, or the Gwen Fox Gallery, housed in a former post office in Selkirk. The Interlake also has its share of artists in the kitchen. Chef Dario Pineda-Gutierrez presides over Maple Tree Restaurant & Steak House in Selkirk. Enjoy pickerel and high tea at Fat Cats Bistro, just north of Gimli, or sample tourtierre at the Riverview Cafe, Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site.
