T he 2016 Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries 55 Plus Games headquarters at the Keystone Centre is a great starting point for exploring the city. Host Committee vice-chair Chuck LaRocque says the Keystone Centre is easy to find and there's plenty of parking for visitors. From there, participants and spectators can take advantage of transportation to events at multiple venues around town, and LaRocque says the variety gives folks a chance to explore the city's many attractions, including the Brandon Museum and Daly House Museum — the restored 1882 home of Brandon's first mayor, which has a Victorian Garden and a replica general store. The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum at Brandon's municipal airport has thousands of artifacts, aircraft and a 91-metre (300- foot) airfoil-shaped granite wall on which the names of more than 18,000 young men and women who died in service of the British Commonwealth air forces are engraved. Just west of Brandon, the RCA Museum, Canada's National Artillery Museum at Canadian Forces Base Shilo, has several outdoor attractions as well as permanent and temporary indoor exhibits. Until June 17, the museum is hosting a special exhibit to mark the 100th anniversary of women's voting rights in Manitoba. Victory: Women, War & The Vote includes costumes and artifacts related to both the suffrage movement and Canada's role in the First World War. On Thursdays during the summer, an outdoor Global Market is held downtown, offering music, farm produce, crafts and a range of unique goods. Explore nature trails along the Assiniboine River at the Riverbank Discovery Centre, which houses the Brandon & Region Tourism Centre. All participants in the Games will receive a booklet provided by the centre as a guide to funky shops, restaurants, pubs and experiences to enjoy before, during and after the Games June 14-16.
