Lighting trends are also evolving.
While dropped pendant fixtures and
chandeliers still add welcome wow-
factor to a room, rope lights under
cabinets (and in toe kick areas, and
even drawers) provide an even
crisper, more contemporary look.
At ground level, Cyr says customers
are leaning toward the rustic, rough-
hewn look of grainy woods — or
wood lookalikes, if the real thing is
out of their price range.
Budget should be a key factor in any
major design choice, she adds, right
up there with the existing look and
layout of the house. And while it's
easy enough to incorporate emerg-
ing design trends in brand new
homes, it's trickier — but every bit
as rewarding — to do so in older
residences.
