Greetings from Manitoba Public Insurance On behalf of Manitoba Public Insurance, I extend greetings and best wishes to all Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) mem- bers for a safe and enjoyable National Trucking Week. This week provides an excellent opportunity to recognize the dedicated professional drivers who work hard every day to ensure safe transport on roads throughout our province and across our country. I sincerely hope that all MTA members take great pride in their driving skills, record of safety, and hard work as the lifeblood of the commercial truck transportation industry. At Manitoba Public Insurance, our mission is "Working with Manitobans to reduce risk on the road." We are proud to share a focus on road safety with the MTA, and to work together to make safety a priority. We appreciate your commitment to road safety, congratulate you on the contributions you make to Manitoba's economy overall, and share your justifiable pride in the work you do. We look forward to continuing to work together and wish you continued success. NATIONAL TRUCKING WEEK - 3 I TRUCKING September 3-9, 2017 Dear Friends: I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to the members of the Manitoba Trucking Association as you celebrate National Trucking Week. Established in 1932, the Manitoba Trucking Association works to advocate for and support professionals in the trucking industry. With over 25,000 Manitobans directly employed in the truck transportation sector, this industry plays a vital role in the province's economy. This week offers a wonderful opportunity to recognize the significant contributions of industry professionals in Manitoba and across Canada. I am certain that participants will enjoy the many activities planned, and will take this opportunity to celebrate their many accomplishments. Please accept my best wishes for a memorable week. Sincerely, The Rt. Hon. Justin P. J. Trudeau, P.C., M.P. Prime Minister of Canada Page 1 of 1 Manitoba Trucking Association Newsletter Greetings from Minister Ron Schuler National Trucking Week (September 3-9, 2017) To the Manitoba Trucking Association and its Members: As Manitoba's Minister of Infrastructure, I am honoured to be sending greetings to the Manitoba Trucking Association and its members during National Trucking Week this year. It cannot be understated how important the trucking industry is to the Manitoba economy with close to 475 for hire trucking companies headquartered here in Manitoba and that the trucking sector contributes more than two billion dollars directly to our provincial GDP. Our international borders see approximately 400,000 trucks crossing into the United States every year, moving nearly nine billion dollars worth of goods and products. Your industry sector alone employs close to five percent of our entire workforce. These types of numbers are staggering and demonstrate the importance of your industry to the social and economic well-being of all Manitobans. As we move into the fall of 2017, the trucking sector industry in Manitoba is once again facing substantial challenges. The trucking industry must make efforts to understand and adjust to the upcoming national electronic logging devices mandate. Somewhat related to that, is your industry's desire for better truck parking locations in Manitoba and an infrastructure renewal program that can meet its growing needs. Harmonizing transportation policy with our partners in the New West Partnership Trade Agreement, a qualified driver shortage, driver retention problems, and the removal of unnecessary and cumbersome safety legislation and regulation are also issues that we need to address together. We will work tirelessly over the next year and develop solutions that work for both industry and government. Having said that, this is a week of celebration for your industry and the fantastic work that you do. So on behalf of the Manitoba government, I want you to know that we applaud the enormous contribution your industry makes to the quality of life that we all enjoy here in Manitoba.
