4 - NATIONAL TRUCKING WEEK I'm delighted to recognize National Trucking Week and extend best wishes to the 25,000 Manitobans involved in the trucking industry. Dispatchers, dock workers, safety managers, mechanics and drivers all deserve our appreciation for the tremendous work they do to safely deliver the goods we all rely on in our daily lives. Keeping Canada moving is a big job and trucking is expected to continue to grow. As Mayor of Winnipeg, I'm working to increase our investment in roads and infrastructure to make your lives easier on the job. Each year during National Trucking Week there are special events to mark the occasion and celebrate the women and men working in this important industry. From events at truck stops and roadside inspection stations to BBQs, breakfasts, truck washes and charity events I hope that each of you will have the time and opportunity to enjoy some of the great activities planned throughout the week. Events like the Convoy for Special Olympics and the Truck Pull for the United Way are a lot of fun, but they are a lot of work to put together, so on behalf of the City of Winnipeg and my city council colleagues, I want to extend thanks to the organizers and volunteers involved in making these events and National Trucking Week a success. Thanks to all of you involved in the trucking industry for a job well done! Greetings from the City of Brandon As we celebrate National Trucking Week for 2017, it is a good opportunity to stop and recognize the thousands of women and men who work in all facets of the trucking industry. Every part of our everyday lives is somehow connected back to trucking; every product, service and material likely had wheels under it at some point. In a Province as vast as Manitoba, we rely so very heavily on goods being moved by the trucking industry. Whether it be the professional drivers, dispatchers, dock workers, mechanics, office staff, sales associates, safety professionals or owners and managers, our trucking sector is extremely well served in this province. In my own city of Brandon, we have a long and proud history as a regional hub of trucking with hundreds of our citizens employed in the industry. On behalf of Brandon City Council and the 50,000 residents of our fine city, let me extend warm wishes to everyone engaged in the trucking industry and congratulations on marking 2017 National Trucking Week. It is fabulous to see the ongoing forward strides in the industry through advanced logistics, enhanced safety and ongoing efficiency. Best wishes to all for another productive, prosperous and, most of all, a very safe year ahead.
