DIFFERENT STROKES — Cont'd from page 27

Cotroneo says the challenge facing builders is coming
up with different ways of approaching various rooms or
elements within those rooms that homeowners take for
granted, or wouldn't think of changing.
Take a fireplace, for example. It's a great thing to have
in Winnipeg, particularly if you like your house nice and
cozy in the winter and you enjoy the crackle of burning
wood or the convenience of gas. But a fireplace is a
fireplace, right?
Wrong.
One of Cotroneo's designers wanted to make the space
in a new Bridgwater Lakes show home at 40 Willow Brook
Rd. unique, so he turned the gas fireplace on its side.
"You don't see a vertical fireplace very often. We just
thought it was awesome when we saw it. It's a challenge
but we're able to express our artistic side. We're able to
plan the house around the scenery and the lot that we
have," he says.
KDR Homes' show home at 22 Willow Brook Rd. is bringing
the drama, with a red kitchen island and a glass stairwell
feature that runs from the basement to the second floor.
Another KDR show home in Sage Creek has little touches
like deck access off the master bedroom and unobstructed
lake views from both the great room and the huge galley
kitchen, and a South Pointe entry boasts a home gym, spice
kitchen and bar, so you never have to leave the house.
