"It's one thing to have a beautiful space, but if you and your guests don't
feel comfortable in that space, something just isn't right. I love maximizing
storage and function, while including a bit of Euro design influence, and
having items that double in use as something else," she adds.
Irwin Homes senior designer Krista Koop says the use of lighting and
lighting fixtures as a design accessory is more prevalent, and brass and
gold hardware are trending now, as are rich, bold paint colours such as
Benjamin Moore's colour of the year, a deep amethyst-grey called
Shadow 2117-30.
And then there are classics that never go out of style.
"Subway tile has been used in design for years and continues to be.
It is a tile that never dates itself but is fresh and always in style.
Different sizes, shapes and colours of tile can be used to create a finish
detail, whether in a farmhouse kitchen backsplash or an elegant
custom en suite shower," says Koop.
