"Just looking around the place makes me happy. I don't regret it for a second. I always wanted to own my own business," she says. "When we have a slow season, it takes a toll, but I think everyone should go for their dreams. We only live once. It's not for the faint of heart, but it's worth it." A 2010 finalist in the Emerging Business category at the Manitoba Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, Hunter says forming a network of other female small business owners has made all the difference. "Your friends and family can support you, but they may not under- stand exactly what you're going through. It's important to find other like- minded people." Perseverance and diversifying has helped Hunter stay in business when others have failed. Gone Scrappin' In Bloom is one of the few remaining scrapbook supply shops. "Pinterest has helped bring scrapbooking back, and there are new ways to scrapbook that have made it a lot easier, like albums with set templates where you just pop in the photos," she says. "Life is so crazy that everyone needs a hobby, something they can do for themselves to relax." ■ Gone Scrappin' In Bloom is located on 20 Victoria Avenue East in Rossburn.
