"You can get a wallcovering that can tie two completely different colour tones together, the same way that fabric does. "It might be in the middle of two rooms, but it's going to be a focal point, or it's a wall in the bedroom. Bathrooms are another area that people want to dress up because it's not a big area." Pick a pattern: Old-fashioned florals have made way for larger patterns, with some repeating every 24 or 30 inches. "The patterns have changed, thank goodness," Kuchciak says with a chuckle. "At one point, I thought if I never saw another flower again it would be too soon." Popular choices include damask and those with sparkle or texture. Winnipeggers tend to favour monochromatic looks, and the younger generation leans toward big patterns and bold colours. Murals are a fad that hasn't faded, and some people do a series of panels, alternating paint with a panel of wallcovering. "There's so much to choose from, but it's so personal," Kuchciak says.
