Banks shares a few things people need to consider when it comes to choosing the light- ing system that is right for their home. You should also consider the spac- ing options a system offers and determine which one is best suited to your home’s exterior. Trimlight is a division of K&S Electronics and Security and is the exclusive Winnipeg dealer for the Utah-based company that manufactures the product. Its bulbs are slightly different than some of its competitors’ products. Although each bulb still has three LED lights, they protrude down slightly from the track. The unique design means the colours generated by the lights can be seen from virtually any angle unlike some exterior lights, which can become washed out depending on the angle they are viewed from. One of the questions Banks is often asked about Trimlight’s exterior lights is how will they hold up during Manitoba’s harsh winters. His response: Trimlight offers a lifetime warranty on all of its lighting products. “There’s no issues due to weather. The bulbs are fully sealed so they never get any water inside of them. You don’t have to worry about it with our climate at all,” he says. Another question he is commonly asked is how will the lights affect a home’s energy bill. He says the impact is minimal. It’s powered by a 12-volt power supply unit that plugs into a stan- dard outlet in the garage and connects to the lights via Wi-Fi. Each bulb consumes less than a single watt of power. “You won’t even notice these on your hydro bill, to be honest,” he notes. Trimlight offers several other exterior lighting products including landscape light- ing, deck lights and down lights. Down lights can be installed under eaves or overhangs to brighten pathways, driveways and entrances and provide some added ambience. All of its lighting systems can be pro- grammed via an app on your favourite mobile device. That means they can be pre-pro- grammed to change at specified times through- out the year by simply touching the screen of your device. “You basically set it and then forget it. You set it for the entire year and you don’t have to worry about it.”
