BUSINESS EXCELLENCE Awarding 04 - C O n S u M e r C h O i C e A w A r d 2 0 1 3 - C C A w A r d . C O M Winners are chosen in six categories: business, construction, everyday life, health and fitness, home and transportation. "We run an excellent marketing program on behalf of our companies for the entire year. We contact all the winners to see if they want to participate in the marketing program, and each year the companies are becoming more and more receptive," McFadden said. "The companies we find are good at what they do, but not necessarily good at marketing what they do. There are a bunch of different ways to get the message out there." "THE cOMPaNIES WE FIND aRE GOOD aT WHaT THEY DO, bUT NOT NEcESSaRILY GOOD aT MaRkETING WHaT THEY DO. THERE aRE a bUNcH OF DIFFERENT WaYS TO GET THE MESSaGE OUT THERE." McFadden worked for Pepsi for 24 years. He purchased CCA with Sbrollini in December 2009 in the hopes their marketing expertise would make a real difference for the award winners. "I felt that the previous owners weren't doing a great job of marketing the companies that won," he explained. All participants in the CCA program are allowed the use of the CCA trademark for an entire year; this trademark is considered to be a seal of excellence, used to identify only those businesses that have been chosen as outstanding service providers. Winners can also participate in a number of other marketing initiatives, including a merchandising program, where they can purchase plaques, decals, and other point-of-purchase materials. Consumer Choice Award also direct-mails 50,000 guides in Winnipeg, with all the local winning companies listed. They promote each city's winners on the CCA website with hot-links to each company's site. "We've continued to bring new innovation and marketing to the awards every year," said McFadden. "The public should know that people like themselves have identified these companies as being the best at what they do. It should give them a degree of confidence." Before McFadden became COO, the Consumer Choice Award program was available in nine cities across Canada. He has expanded the program and added another five cities — Regina, Saskatoon, Hamilton, London and St. John's.
