NIPISSING FN – The Union of Ontario In- Etherington Sr. and Patrick Etherington Jr., are making the 340 kilometre journey from North Bay to a Truth and Reconciliation Intergenera- tional Regional Gathering that is taking place The two First Nations walkers, Patrick in Toronto on May 31 - June 2, 2012. The gath- ering will convene residential school survi- vors, Elders, Youth, Ontario Chiefs, Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) Commissioners, church representatives, gov- ernment officials and academics to promote respect, education and engagement on the Indian Residential School System. This is the third year that the group has walked to raise awareness of the intergen- erational impacts of residential schools. Addi- tional participants are expected to join in along the way. Union of Ontario Indians staff welcomed the Truth and Reconciliation Walkers on Tues- day afternoon and presented them with a do- nation on behalf of the UOI and the North Bay Indian Friendship Centre to help them on their journey. Community members may contact Truth and Reconciliation Walkers group leader Pat- rick Etherington Sr. if they would like to donate to the walk. The Anishinabek Nation established the Union of Ontario Indians as its secretariat in 1949. The UOI is a political advocate for 39 member First Nations across Ontario.
