Cando employs some 350 people and owns and operates more than 20 locomotives and 300 pieces of automotive, rail and construction equipment. Its chief operations consist of the short-line Central Manitoba Railway (CEMR) and the Orangeville Brampton and Barrie Collingwood railways in Ontario, in addition to industrial rail services and construction, maintenance and contract services. With over 40 full and part-time staff, the CEMR was established in 1999, when Cando acquired CN's Pine Falls and Carman subdivisions in Manitoba. Currently a contract carrier for both CN and CP, the CEMR set up its shop and transportation centre at Transcona terminal in Winnipeg in 2002.
