Many people know that summer is a slow time for television. The exciting new shows don't start until the fall season when everyone is headed back to school and lamenting the end of their summer vacation, but things stay busy at Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) all year long. Many of you will have recently enjoyed APTN's interactive live music and celebra- tion of National Aboriginal Day at The Forks in June. APTN is always looking to share the stories of Aboriginal Peoples, and one way the network does this is through working closely with Aboriginal musicians. There was a di- verse line up of talent at Aboriginal Day Live, and APTN continues to be committed to pro- moting Aboriginal music. The network recently launched its call for Recent Local Donations: Education Northern Moose Lake and Northern Lynn Lake showed their graduation spirit by donating gift cards to help students celebrate their graduation. The gift cards assist with the cost of food and supplies, as well as fundraising efforts. Congratulations grads and good luck in your future endeavors! Culture & Arts Northern St. Theresa Point donated a boat and motor to be raffled off to one lucky winner at the St. Theresa Point Bannock Festival. The annual festival features five fun-filled days of traditional games, and canoe and boat races. Sports & Recreation Northern Stanley Mission was pleased to help make the Girl Guides summer camping trip a little easier by donating two portable camp stoves. The Stanley Mission Girl Guides provide girl's aged 5–16 with opportunities to become confident, vibrant, dedicated members of society. See what we do every day! This is an amazing opportunity for Ca- nadian Aboriginal artists to have a music video produced and showcased in a one-hour special entitled First Tracks, which will air na- tionally on APTN. The music videos will also stream on APTN's website. APTN and/or its representatives will pro- duce music videos for a song that is on a cur- rent or soon-to-be released album. First Tracks 2012 supports all genres of music videos in any Aboriginal language, English, and French. musical genres, from country to punk, and from pop to instrumental. Musicians have been from all regions of Canada, and have included First Nations, Inuit and Métis artists. Designed by 17-year-old Cynthia Undyantara (Ontario), this flag "reflects the core teach- ings" of Aboriginal cultures. It was flying high as a part of APTN's Aboriginal Day Live and Celebration 2012 at The Forks. Since the inception of First Tracks in 2007, APTN has invited Aboriginal musicians each year to submit songs for consideration.
